The Huygens probe is on its way to Titan, and things are looking good. Friday is the big day! There is a timeline for the mission on the European Space Angency web site, including a webcam looking into the control room for the project.

Friday night's astronomy talk will be on the Huygens probe. Just hours after the event Chris Anderson will tell us all he can about it, even though NASA/ESA will still be downloading data from Cassini during the meeting. We should at least know how things went, and be able to see some of the early images.

The weather is looking fairly good for observing Friday night. Partly cloudy and COLD! Bring your winter gear just in case we have good weather. We are about due for some...


Comet Machholz continues to get higher and brighter. After a couple of minutes dark adapting, I could see it from in Kimberly about 1:30 New Years morining. It is an easy binocular object, and I can't wait to get another shot at it with the big scope. All I need is some predictable clear weather.

One good thing, we no longer have to wait for the comet to get above the telescope's horizon, it is now about 30 degrees up at sunset, and I believe it will stay high in the sky for the rest of the apparition.

Hope for clear skies Tuesday night. Not only is it the next public viewing session at the Centennial Observatory, there is a possibility for aurora that night. The weather forecast looks pretty grim...
